Networktopia was created over the course of two days in the Chrysler Museum Hot Shop. It was constructed by dripping glass strings to create a layered topography, which was then sliced into two rectangular forms. Networktopia uses the strategy of “action painting,” to create an abstract landscape that is both sublime and evocative. The chaos of the drip pattern gives the sculpture its structural strength and contrasts the stark geometry that inscribes the piece. Networktopia is acontemplation on opposites and embodies the dichotomies of hard and soft, strong and delicate, organic and rigid.
