The interior of the hotel features artwork by various local artists including Lisa Spindler of The Spindler Project, Matt Eaton of Red Bull House of Art and Kim Harty of the College for Creative Studies.
Harty's installation, called "Cumulus," is a glass light fixture that hangs in the shaft space where firefighters would hang hoses to dry. The assistant professor and section head for glass was supported by the college and students to create the piece inspired by the building's history.
"The 'Cumulus' installation was inspired by the feeling of ascending through the clouds, and I wanted to bring that experience inside and give hotel visitors a kind of unexpected and magical experience when they walk through the space," Harty said in a statement. "This unusual space was an opportunity to inject delight, surprise and provide a special moment into visitors' experience of the hotel.
